A Wellness Expo for Those Living with PD and Their Care Partners

PD RESET: A half day in-person event for both people with Parkinson’s (PD) and their Care Partners (CP). PD Reset Wellness Expo, on March 12, is aimed at giving both groups a much-needed reset. Speakers will give separate presentations to each group on the importance of improving mental health, infusing life with the attitude of gratitude, and learning to keep a healthy body and healthy brain, among other topics.

Dr. Gilbert will address some of the more common mental health concerns that can be a part of Parkinson’s disease. She will discuss the positive steps that you can take to improve the impact of these symptoms on your life or the life of your loved one with PD.

Dr. Rebecca Gilbert

joined APDA in 2018, as Chief Scientific Officer. She is responsible for overseeing APDA’s research portfolio in conjunction with APDA’s Scientific Advisory Board, and also provides medical and clinical expertise to support APDA programming, print materials and web content.

Dr. Gilbert received her MD degree at Weill Medical College of Cornell University and PhD in Cell Biology and Genetics at the Weill Graduate School of Medical Sciences. She then completed her Neurology Residency training as well as Movement Disorders Fellowship training at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center. She continues to maintain a limited schedule of patients one day a week through Bellevue Hospital Center.

Prior to joining APDA, she was an Associate Professor of Neurology at the Fresco Institute for Parkinson’s and Movement Disorders, NYU Langone Medical Center where she saw Movement disorders patients at both NYU and Bellevue Hospital Center, initiated and directed the NYU Movement Disorders Fellowship, participated in clinical trials and other research initiatives for Parkinson disease and lectured widely on Parkinson’s disease.

David Lieberman, PhD

Julie Fineman PT, EdM, EdD

Dr. Fineman is the Director of Clinical Education and a Clinical Assistant Professor for the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY. She is a physical therapist with 30 years of experience specializing in neurologic rehabilitation. She received her BA in Physical Therapy from University of Delaware and her MA and EdM degrees in Motor Learning & Control from Teacher’s College, Columbia University.

She completed her EdD degree with research investigating skill acquisition and dual task paradigms in subjects with Parkinson’s Disease patients. Her study evaluated the validiity and clinical applicability of a novel dual task assessment (C3T), which was conducted in collaboration with Cardiff University, Cardiff, UK.

When not working in the lab she enjoys spending time with her family, practicing karate and creating stained glass.

Phil Schneider, Ed.D. CCC-SLP

is the founding partner of Schneider Speech Pathology. Recognized as a master clinician and teacher, he has been practicing and teaching for over 40 years. He holds the title of Professor Emeritus of Communication Disorders at Queens College, CUNY.

Phil has been honored with the New York State Speech-Language-Hearing Association Distinguished Clinician Award, the New York City Speech-Language-Hearing Association Professional Achievement Award, and the Queens College Award for Excellence in Teaching. In 2004 he was named the Speech Pathologist of the Year by the National Stuttering Association; in 2006 he was awarded the highest Honors of the New York State Speech-Language-Hearing Association and in 2013 he was give the Advocacy Award by the Stuttering Association of the Young (SAY). Phil is a spokesperson for the Stuttering Foundation of America and has appeared on NBC, ABC and WOR-TV; he has presented more than 200 inspirational and innovative seminars across the United States and around the world.

His first documentary, “Transcending Stuttering: The Inside Story” aired on PBS Channel 13 in 2004, it has been viewed (free) online by tens-of-thousands of people worldwide.  It is viewed and studied in universities around the country.  His second documentary, “Going with the Flow: A Guide to Transcending Stuttering” featured the process of therapy including real footage of Dr. Schneider engaging two young adults who stutter. His other publications include basic vocal physiology as well as applied clinical topics related to voice disorders, stuttering and principles of therapeutic change.

Jonathan Feiner, Ph.D

Dr. Jonathan Feiner is an experienced clinical psychologist, supervisor, and author. Founder/Director of Rockland CBT, a psychology practice group specializing in mood and anxiety disorders, and the adult clinical director at Achieve Behavioral Health. He is also the author of "Mindfulness: A Jewish Approach" and is a faculty member at Yeshiva University’s Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology.

Prior to joining Achieve, he primarily worked as the clinical director of a psychology practice group specializing in evidence-based treatments for mood and anxiety disorders. In addition to his clinical skills, Dr. Feiner brings to Achieve his unique style of thoughtful engagement and training.

Yuri Milshtein, Sensei

3rd Degree Black Belt

Sensei Yuri began his official training in martial arts in 1987 at TSK United American Karate, in Central Nyack, NY. Over the next decade he competed at various martial arts tournaments and won numerous awards.

Over the years, Sensei Yuri took breaks from his training to fulfill his military duty obligations, as a member of the U.S. Army Reserve Military Police Corp and for his scholastic studies at S.U.N.Y. Rockland, where he received an A.A.S. degree in Criminal Justice and a Certificate of study in Emergency Medicine.

In May of 2003 he completed the Karate Instructor program at Long Island University School of Sport Sciences and continued his martial arts training, intensely, with the World Survival Hisardut Organization. After years of training and working as the program director and instructor, Sensei Yuri earned his 1st Degree Black Belt in 2009, and also received the title of Sensei, under Grandmaster Moti Horenstein.

In addition to Martial Arts, Yuri is also certified as an instructor of Rock Steady Boxing, helping people with Parkinsons improve their quality of life through a non-contact boxing based fitness curriculum
