This year’s theme, “Your Winning Team: Medicine and Complementary Therapies for Living Well with Parkinson’s,” will guide a year-long series of impactful events and workshops.  Each program is carefully designed to inform, inspire, and build connections between patients, care partners, and the healthcare community.

“Mindful Neurology, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Techniques for Improved Sleep and Other PD Symptoms”

Dr. Ooi earned her B.A. from Wellesley College with a concentration in biochemistry and art history, and her M.D. from SUNY Downstate Medical Center. She was recruited to stay for neurology residency at SUNY Downstate, where she served as Chief Resident during her final year of training and was awarded Resident Physician of the Year. She subsequently completed a two-year Movement Disorders fellowship at Mount Sinai Beth Israel, under the mentorship of Dr. Susan Bressman and Dr. Rachel Saunders-Pullman. After completing her training, she was recruited back to SUNY Downstate/Maimonides Medical Center where she served as Assistant Professor of Neurology and Attending Neurologist before joining New York Presbyterian and Weill Cornell Medicine.

Dr Sarah Mulukutla is a Harvard & Yale-trained neurologist who combines traditional neurological evaluation with evidence-based holistic practices to provide a customized treatment plan for each individual. She is the founder of the Section on Neurohealth & Integrative Neurology at the American Academy of Neurology and has gained an international reputation for her efforts in promoting the field of Integrative Neurology. She has been teaching meditation since 2012, including numerous lectures to neurologists and physicians explaining the medical and neuro-anatomical benefits of meditative practices. She founded Mindful Neurology, PLLC to investigate the impact of mind-body medicine on neurological conditions. Her current efforts are aimed at conducting research trials to objectively monitor the impact of Mindful Neurology programs.

Natalie Hellmers, PhD, RN, ACNP-BC, graduated from New York University with her Masters in Science and a PhD in Nursing research. She currently is a Nurse Practitioner at Weill Cornell Medicine Parkinson’s Disease & Movement Disorder Institute. She provides expert clinical evaluations and treatment for movement disorders. She offers consultation as a part of the supportive care clinic LIFT program. Her practice is open to new patients. She maintained a full time position on general medicine service followed by working for several years as a certified senior staff RN in critical care before transitioning to outpatient neurology.
