The Impact of Positive Thinking in PD

[Pomona, NY, Jun 13, 2021] Continuing to ‘accentuate the positive,’ PWP took viewers on a fascinating journey to explore the remarkable capacity of the human mind to affect and improve well-being.  This latest webinar brought together a Movement Disorders Medical Director at Mount Sinai in New York, a Medical Director and Specialist in Neurology at RAK Hospital in Dubai, along with a Professor Emeritus of Communication Disorders at City University of NY, expertly moderated by one of PWP’s pioneer Neurologists, now Director of the Movement Disorder/Aging Brain Center at The Neurological Institute and Specialty Centers in Indiana.

Dr. Joohi Jimenez-Shahed opened the program with an overview of ‘The Whole Brain Connection,’ illustrating practical pointers on how to achieve the best doctor/patient relationship from both sides, including symptoms that may not present themselves as obvious, such as sleep disorder, mood or anxiety, and facial masking.

Dr. Shahed laid out the guidelines to ensure the best possible healing regimen, starting out with regular medication, exercise, and sleep.  Dr. Jennifer Pallone then directed the discussion toward movement-related symptoms affecting emotions that may call for psychological or psychiatric intervention, along with ensuring the best choice of medication.

Building on a solid clinical foundation, the webinar moved on to an exploration of natural neurochemistry to control PD through self-hypnosis.

Dr. Sweta Adatia, originally from India, and educated there and in the UK, Canada, and US, touts herself as a ‘Whole Brain Master Practitioner,’ who has given TEDx Talks on the ‘Impact of Story on the Brain,’ and conducted workshops using a brain mapping technique to help students choose their best career scientifically.   Dr. Adatia talked about the subconscious mind and the power of natural neurochemistry using Neural Linguistic Programming to actually better one’s well-being, as seen in a live demonstration with Dr. Phil Schneider, a leading authority on speech and communication with a unique outlook on treating parkinsons.

Music as Medicine, Part 2, rescheduled for the fall, will feature “Music That Moves You: Taking You From Where You Are To the Place You Want to Be,” including a follow-up report on those of us who have taken up singing and dancing since last February’s presentation.

Join us also for a new series, PWP/MD, showcasing new Doctors, Treatments, and Medications, in a small and informal online town hall meeting.

PWP Workout, live online classes, are a great way to maintain your exercise routine while promoting an uplifting team spirit. The Dance Movement, Boxing, Stretch, and Improv professionals will keep you moving, motivated, and amused.

PWP gratefully acknowledges the support of Abbott, Abbvie, Acorda, and Kyowa Kirin, Medtronic, and Sunovion.
